NEWARK, N.J., April 5 (Reuters) - Rutgers University Athletic Director Tim Pernetti will leave his post in the wake of revelations that ousted men's basketball coach Mike Rice had verbally and physically abused players, the Star-Ledger newspaper and ESPN reported on Friday.
The media outlets cited sources who were not authorized to speak publicly.
Rutgers spokesman Greg Trevor declined to comment on the reports but said the school has scheduled a 1 p.m. EDT (1700 GMT) news conference on athletic matters.
Rice was fired as the New Jersey public university's basketball coach on Wednesday after ESPN broadcast videos that showed him berating players with homophobic slurs during practice sessions, grabbing and kicking them and throwing basketballs at their heads.
